MEN’S HEALTH WORKER (PART TIME)

JOB DESCRIPTION

A ‘men’s shed’ is a community-based project, where men can come
together to learn, share skills and make long-lasting friendships
together. All sheds are independent and self-autonomous and the range
of activities that are carried out by sheds differ from each other.
The Dublin 8 Men’s Shed is based in front of the Dolphin House flats
but is open to men from the surrounding area. It serves the locality
by giving men the opportunity to come and work in the workshop, take
part in classes, attend talks by guest speakers and to go on trips.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To develop and implement a work plan for the D8 Men’s Shed that
reflects the goals and themes of Healthy Ireland, the Irish Men’s
Shed Association and Dolphin House Community Development Association
(DHCDA)

DUTIES:

* Work with the D8 Men’s Shed
* Support the D8 Men’s Shed committee
* Comply with DHCDA Policies, Procedures and Protocols
* Participate in the development of DHCDA Annual Health Plan
* Work to implement the actions of the DHCDA Annual Health Plan
* Facilitate group work and evaluate activities
* Maintain records on attendance at meetings, groups and topics
covered
* Organise community events, activities and trips
* Liaise with voluntary, community and statutory agencies
* Identify and access relevant funding
* Work with the DHCDA Health Team
* Represent the D8 Men’s Shed at events
* Outreach to promote D8 Men’s Shed locally
* Network with other existing men’s sheds

YOU WILL NEED:

ESSENTIAL

* Experience of working in community development
* Excellent communication skills
* The ability to display flexibility in the role
* Awareness and understanding of mental health

DESIRABLE

* A qualification in community development or health promotion
* Experience of working in a social care setting
* Report writing skills
* Experience of writing funding applications
* Event planning or management

LINE MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

* Provide verbal and written reports as appropriate
* Participate in regular supervision
* Manage workload and time in an effective manner
* Undertake other duties as requested by line manager from time to
time

HOURS OF WORK

* The Men’s Health Worker will work *.5
hours a week Monday- Thursday 9. *am-1.**Apply

* One overnight trip per year, for which there will be time off in
lieu

The Men’s Health Worker annual salary is based on the level and
relevance of the candidate's work experience
